Birding field trips planned

The Lancaster County Bird Club (LCBC) will offer two field trips on Saturday, Feb. 24. Both trips are free and open to the public.

One trip will take place at Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area with an 8 a.m. start. The group will view the lake from different areas and look at various ponds and other areas in order to observe waterfowl, including snow geese and bald eagles. Participants are asked to register by 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23, by contacting Craig Boyhont at 717-368-5986 or cboyhont@gmail.com.

The other outing will be held at the Columbia Crossing River Trails Center, 41 Walnut St., Columbia, with birding from the deck overlooking the Susquehanna River from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Spotting scopes will be set up under the main porch pavilion, and LCBC president Ted Nichols and other club members will be on hand to help with identification and to answer birding questions. Light refreshments will be available. This event is held in collaboration with the Columbia Crossing River Trails Center, which is managed by the Susquehanna Natural Heritage Area for the Borough of Columbia. No registration is necessary. For more details, contact Nichols at 717-856-3851 or tanicholsii@gmail.com.
