Blood drive set in Lampeter

The Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health Blood Donor Center will host a blood drive to support the West Lampeter Township Police Department. The event will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 5, at the West Lampeter Township Building, 852 Village Road, Lampeter, from 2 to 7 p.m. Ascension Lutheran Church will co-host the blood drive, which is open to the public.

The event is part of Bleed Blue, a friendly competition that provides blood for patients in the Lancaster General Health system. Last year during the challenge, 512 donors volunteered to donate blood in support of their local police departments.

Blood donors must be in good health, including being free of flu and cold symptoms for at least three days; 16 to 79 years of age, with 16-year-olds requiring parental consent; weigh at least 110 pounds; be well hydrated; and eat a substantial meal within four hours before donating. They should bring a form of ID.

Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins will also be accepted. To make an appointment, call 717-544-0170 or visit http://www.lghealth.org/giveblood. All individuals intending to donate will receive a gift card or a movie ticket. T-shirts will be available while supplies last.
