Boat tours planned on Susquehanna River

The Susquehanna National Heritage Area (SNHA) will offer fall boat tours of the Susquehanna River. Each tour will last one hour and will set sail from SHNA's Zimmerman Center for Heritage, 1706 Long Level Road, Wrightsville.

Haunted Heritage Boat Tours will be available on Friday to Sunday, Oct. 27 to 29. SNHA staff members will share stories of the Susquehanna's strange happenings, creature sightings, and wild tragedies.

A Flames Across the Susquehanna Boat Tour will be offered on Thursday, Nov. 2. Participants will hear the story of the night that flames stretched across the Susquehanna as the Columbia-Wrightsville Bridge burned on June 28, 1863.

Native Peoples of the Susquehanna Boat Tours will be held on Friday to Sunday, Nov. 3 to 5. Attendees will hear the story of this area's native peoples while passing historic Native American sites.

All tours will be conducted aboard the Chief Uncas, an electric vessel built in 1912 for Adolphus Busch, co-founder of the famous American beverage company. Busch used the boat to enjoy cruises at his summer estate on Otsego Lake in Cooperstown, N.Y., where the headwaters of the Susquehanna River are located. After cruising the lake for 109 years, the boat was purchased in 2021 and transported to Pennsylvania.
