Breakfast will benefit mission trip

Enjoy a tasty breakfast and support a mission trip at the same time during an annual event at Ruhl's Church.

An all-you-can-eat strawberry and waffle breakfast will be held on Saturday, May 3, at the church, 4810 Elizabethtown Road, Manheim, from 6 to 10 a.m. or until sold out.

Along with strawberries and waffles, the meal will feature pancakes, eggs, breakfast casseroles, bacon, sausage, home-fried potatoes and assorted beverages.

"The Mission Outreach Team prepares and serves all the food," said Gail Ruhl, who is a Mission Outreach Team coordinator with her husband, Chuck. "Our team includes members of Ruhl's Church and other churches in our community."

All proceeds raised by the event will be used to offset the costs involved with the group's annual mission trip. Those costs include food, transportation and project money, Gail said.

"This year, our team will be traveling to North Carolina to help those severely impacted by Hurricane Helene during the fall of 2024," she stated. "This storm hit primarily the western region of the state and caused major destruction of infrastructure and residential areas across many counties. We have not yet been told what our tasks will be, but our hope is that we can serve the people in need by assisting with either cleanup or rebuilding homes."

The church's mission trips are intergenerational and offer an opportunity for youths and adults to learn from each other while serving alongside one another, Gail noted. Both Gail and Chuck have been serving as mission team coordinators for almost 20 years.

Gail said support from many people is required to make the breakfast fundraiser happen.

"We are very thankful for several business donors from the community who are supplying food items for this breakfast fundraiser," she stated. "We appreciate these generous donations."

The breakfast typically draws a large crowd, and Gail encourages people to come early before items sell out.

"Come out to enjoy some delicious home-cooked food and support a worthy cause," she said. "Bring your friends and family and relax while you eat your fill. Members of our mission team would love to spend some time answering any questions you may have about past trips or even explain how you can join the team on future trips."

No tickets or reservations are needed for the breakfast. There are separate prices for adults and children ages 5 to 12. There is no charge for children age 4 and under. For more information, visit www.ruhlschurch.org or call the church at 717-665-3400.
