Mountville Library Will Hold Book Sale Sept. 19

If you love books, the Mountville Branch Library might just have what you're looking for at its annual fall sale.

The event will be held Friday, Sept. 19, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 20, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Mountville Church of the Brethren, which is across the street from the library at 60 Clay St.

"We have all kinds of books," said Denlinger, the president of Friends of Mountville Library, which organizes the event. "In the fall, we usually have a lot of children's books and young adult books. I credit that to the teachers who are retiring. Lots of times they give us their library, so we get fabulous books. If you want books for your child, come and get them. You can't go wrong coming and getting the books - hardbacks, softbacks, all kinds of stuff. We also have quite a few new books. The books from 2022 through 2025 will be specially priced and nothing more than $6. They're very good titles, very popular."

The book sale will also feature what Denlinger calls "classic mysteries," including works by Agatha Christie, Lou Adler, and Ellery Queen. "If you're a mystery lover and you don't want to read books (by current authors), come and look at our mystery books because we have quite a few."

Denlinger noted that the sale will also include fiction and romance books as well as works on many other topics. She joked that it's not necessary that one reads them.

"We have some very old books, dating back to the 1930s," said Denlinger. "And we also have books that if you're decorating, and you need a pretty book, put it on your shelf. A lot of people don't buy cookbooks, but we have some very nice looking cookbooks. It'll look good on your kitchen shelf, and it makes people think you're a good cook. I'm hoping we have books for all."

The Friends will accept cash, debit cards, credit cards, and checks as payment.

"If you're a book lover, we have all kinds of books," said Denlinger, who added that the "great team" of Friends members and people from the community make the book sale possible. "If you're looking for a certain book, we have a lot of people who can come and help you find that book. If you want to come to the book sale because you want to get out of the house and it's something to do, come to the book sale to support the library. Buy some books and make new friends with your books."

In addition to books, jigsaw puzzles, games, vinyl records, and DVDs will also be for sale.

The Friends of Mountville Library group works closely with librarian Lisa Lane to help supplement the budget. "If Lisa wants to do something or buy something that the LPL (Lancaster Public Library) doesn't have the money for, we fund that," said Denlinger. "We helped her with some of the stuff that she wanted for the summer reading program. We do send some of the money down to LPL because they have to help pay for the salaries and the funding for our library, because we cannot do this without LPL. The money goes downtown to help just the Mountville Library. The money that we send down there, that is used for Mountville Library to help with rent, to help with things around the library and paying the staff."

The Mountville Library sponsors a wealth of programs, including Adult Crafternoons, Read-A-Loud With Raven (a therapy dog), Genealogy for Beginners, Toddler Time, and Preschool Storytime.

Denlinger also stated that the library's summer fundraiser at Scoops Ice Cream & Grille raised a record amount. "We would like to thank Scoops for supporting the library," she said.
