Camp Adventure to offer summer fun

Games, arts and crafts, sports, hikes, trips to the playground and swimming are just some of the activities that students enjoy during Camp Adventure, offered each summer at the Birdsboro Community Memorial Center, 201 E. Main St., Birdsboro.

This year, camps will run from Mondays through Fridays, June 12, through Aug. 11, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Camp will be closed on Monday and Tuesday, July 3 and July 4, for the Independence Day holiday.

"We are a nonprofit that partners with the United Way of Berks County to provide a low-cost summer day camp to (5-year-old) children who have completed kindergarten (up to age) 13," explained Lisa Kraljevich, the center's executive director. "We offer nine themed weeks. Forgotten Friend Reptile Sanctuary, as well as representatives from French Creek State Park, will be visiting this summer as part of our STEM programming."

Campers will also take part in reading and educational programs, and they will visit the Franklin Institute and attend a Reading Fightin Phils baseball game. "Field trips are included in the camp prices so that all children may participate. (There are) no additional fees for parents to worry about," said Kraljevich.

The camp director is Marissa Raposelli, a teacher specializing in educational support. "Marissa has been employed by the center for five years and started out as a camper herself," noted Kraljevich. "Assistant counselors are local high school and college students with an interest in education."

Kraljevich noted that the camp is not limited to children who reside in Birdsboro. "Camp is open to anyone. We have children from multiple school districts - Daniel Boone, Exeter, Twin Valley, Oley, Boyertown and Pottsgrove," she said, noting that the youths particularly enjoy their trips to the pool. "The kids get to enjoy making new friends and lasting memories."

Children may attend as many camps as they choose throughout the summer. Extended care is also available for an additional fee.

There are discounted rates for siblings, and part-time rates are available.
