Cancer Institute Receives Donation From Woodturners

The Image Recovery Center at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health's Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute (ABBCI) recently received 23 handcrafted wooden wig stands donated by the Lancaster Area Woodturners.

The stands are made from various types of wood, including walnut, maple and birch, and each one is uniquely handcrafted. Several of the wig stands provide a potpourri decorative element. Approximately 18 members from the Lancaster Area Woodturners crafted the wig stands for the patients at ABBCI.

Lancaster Area Woodturners president Matt Kilareski, vice president Ben Kauffman and secretary Barry Price presented the stands to Nikolas Buescher, executive director of ABBCI; Lila Nenninger, Image Recovery Center coordinator; and Gretchen Thomas, nurse navigator.

The Image Recovery Center at ABBCI is designed to help men and women feel better about their appearance during and after cancer treatment. The center offers free consultation by a clinical cosmetologist and a range of products and services to help restore a patient's appearance and well-being, including wigs and accessories, mastectomy prostheses, compression garments, hair salon services, and manicures and pedicures.
