Canine Partners for Life to host Fall Festival

Canine Partners for Life (CPL) will present its annual Fall Festival on Saturday, Sept. 21, from noon to 4 p.m. at CPL's campus, 334 Faggs Manor Road, Cochranville. Featured activities at the free family event will include service dog demonstrations, a puppy kissing booth, food trucks, vendors, kennel tours and an opportunity to win prizes.

Those who attend the event will also learn more about CPL, which offers service and companion dogs to people in need. CPL's mission is to help increase the independence and quality of life of individuals with physical, developmental and cognitive disabilities.

"We will have some clients who will be there with their dogs and service dogs and companion dogs in training who will be with volunteers," noted Kirstin Downie, CPL director of development and communications. "Eleven-week-old puppies in the service dog training program will be in the kissing booth."

There will also be CPL mission booths with opportunities to meet current graduates. "In the mission booths, we break down our program and describe each step of the process," explained Downie. "There is a companion booth, a volunteer booth and a training booth. (The booths) are intermingled with the vendors."

The event will also offer a Family Fun Zone. "There will be a designated area where we have face painting, some games, coloring and outdoor lawn games," Downie said, noting that the area will be run by volunteers from Bank of America.

There will be a variety of food trucks offering snacks and beverages, as well as vendors selling crafts and pet-related items. Live music will be provided by Chilling with Charlie.

New this year will be a petting zoo. "It will have some goats, bunnies and a pig," noted Downie.

The day will end with cow bingo. A fee will be collected per ticket, and squares will be randomly assigned. The cow will be released at 3 p.m. and the ticket holder in whose square the cow heeds the call of nature will win the grand prize of $5,000. Tickets are on sale and can be purchased by cash, check or Venmo. The winner does not need to be present.

The Fall Festival will be held rain or shine. All parking will be on-site at the CPL campus. Handicapped-accessible parking will be available. Personal pets are not permitted.
