Capital Day Celebrations Planned

LancasterHistory, 230 N. President Ave., Lancaster, will hold two events to celebrate Capital Day on Saturday, Sept. 27, the day in 1777 when Lancaster was the capital of the United States.

A Capital Day Pet Parade will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. Owners are encouraged to dress themselves and their pets in Colonial, revolutionary, or patriotic attire. Parade participants will gather outside the museum for brief remarks on the history of Capital Day and then parade around the square, imitating the Continental Congress' march into Lancaster.All pets and children under age 17 must be accompanied by an adult age 18 or older. All pets should also be appropriately leashed or contained at all times; up to date on all required veterinary immunizations; and friendly with crowds, children, and other animals. Owners may be asked to leave with their pets if they fail to meet these requirements.The event is free and open to the public, but there is a suggested donation, which can be made on-site or when registering online. A pet bandana is included with registration, along with free sniffs and water.

The event will feature an activity station for children, as well as s'mores around the campfire.

Refreshments from Commonwealth Kitchen & Bar will be served at 5:30 p.m. At 6 p.m., Stephanie Townrow from LancasterHistory and other special guests will share about the history of Capital Day. Lancaster Quiztory, a Lancaster County-themed game of trivia, will take place at 6:45 p.m.
