Capture the spirit of the season at local holiday events

Known as the "most wonderful time of the year," the Christmas season provides an opportunity for community members to attend a festive array of holiday programs and activities.

The Caernarvon Township Parks and Recreation Committee is offering a Christmas Village for children in Friendship Park, 3287 North St., Morgantown. Santa's Village, which opened on Dec. 7 during the township's Christmas tree-lighting event, consists of a series of small playhouses that children may visit any time during the holiday season. Each of the playhouses has a different theme, and each one contains a small gift for children. According to Erin McMullen, a member of the parks and recreation committee, there are 29 houses on display this year. For more information, visit http://www.facebook.com/CaernarvonPandR.

Additionally, children may drop off their letters to Santa in a drop box located in Friendship Park along with a self-addressed and stamped envelope. Santa will then write each child a personalized letter back. The mailbox will be at the park through Tuesday, Dec. 17. Residents may join the "Twin Valley Letters to Santa" Facebook group for more details.
