Show To Benefit The Parkesburg POINT

The annual Parkesburg Churches Community Outreach (PCCO) car show, which benefits The Parkesburg POINT Youth Center, will have an additional component this year - a holiday craft show featuring items made by the Christian Crafters from Parkesburg United Methodist Church (PUMC). The event will take place rain or shine on Saturday, Oct. 18, from noon to 3 p.m. at The POINT, located at 700 Main St., Parkesburg. Admission is free; donations will be accepted.

According to Mark Beiderman, PUMC pastor, the PCCO car show began about 15 years ago. "It (took place) in the Acme parking lot, which it is now Planet Fitness. Once The POINT moved into the old Charlie's Supermarket, we moved it there," he explained, noting that the car show was also held at one time at LC Auto Body in Parkesburg. "The participants have always been very generous, and the proceeds have always gone to The POINT. It is always a fun event, and the money goes for a great cause."

Vehicle owners of all makes and models are welcome; trophies will be awarded in various classes. "(Categories will include) original, best truck, best bike, best tractor and coolest ride," said Beiderman. "People bring tractors, motorcycles, rat rods and original cars. Anything that has wheels on it is welcome to the car show."

Vehicle owners will be entered into a drawing for door prizes. Some prizes will be provided by the Righteous Clothing Thrift Store, a ministry of PUMC.

PUMC members will also offer food for sale at the car show, including hot dogs and sloppy joe sandwiches.

Beiderman said that the car show has attracted as many as 75 cars in the past, adding that the parking lot at The POINT is tiered, which makes browsing more enjoyable. "The POINT is the perfect place to have a car show," he stated. "The parking lot is raised in the back, and you have 'layers' of cars."

The Christian Crafters craft show will be held indoors at The POINT. Christian Crafters is a free craft class for adults that is offered by United Methodists in Action (UMIA) at PUMC. Led by Jennifer Earl, president of UMIA, members are currently busy creating holiday crafts for the show, including Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas items. Proceeds will support fellowship activities at the church.

The Christian Crafters meet monthly on select Mondays from 7 to 9 p.m. at the church, 411 Main St., Parkesburg. The group is open to adults, and it is not necessary to attend PUMC or another church to participate.

Each meeting begins with a short prayer or reading. Earl then provides instructions for the craft activity of the night. Refreshments are provided.
