Cawalla To Close MU Arts Season

The Arts at Millersville University (MU) will present the Erich Cawalla Big Band in concert on Friday, April 29, at 7:30 p.m. in Steinman Hall at the Ware Center, 42 N. Prince St., Lancaster. This is the final show of Millersville University's performing arts series that runs through the academic year.

The 17-piece Erich Cawalla Big Band features central Pennsylvania music icons Bennie Sims on bass and Steve Rudolph, pianist and band leader. Cawalla will perform a variety of music from his newly released CD, "Erich Cawalla - The Great American Songbook," including original arrangements by Dave Depalma of classics from Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Smokey Robinson, Michael Buble, and others.

A vocalist and instrumentalist, Pennsylvania native Cawalla previously released two full-length albums - "Waiting for Her" and "Heart, Soul, Body, & Mind" - with The Uptown Band, which he founded in 2006. Cawalla released his first solo contemporary jazz release, "222 South," written about his hometown highway in Reading, in 2017.

Live performance credits include playing in the bands of Marie Osmond, The Skyliners and Bill Haley's Comets. He has also been a featured soloist with the Reading POPS Orchestra, Shippensburg Festival Chamber Orchestra, and Hershey Big Band. His notable performances include the Florida Republican Inauguration Gala in 2000, 13 consecutive years at the Berks Jazz Festival, Bethlehem Musikfest and the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
