CCR to host Easter egg hunt in Elverson

Calla's Critter Rescue (CCR), a nonprofit cat rescue organization, will present an Easter egg hunt on Saturday, April 19, at Livingood Park, 116 S. Chestnut St., Elverson.

In lieu of an admission fee, attendees are asked to bring donations of wet cat food and cat litter, as well as cat treats and toys. The event is open to people of all ages, and prizes will be awarded.

According to rescue founder Calla Gibson, event organizer, there will be separate egg hunts for various age groups: birth to 2 years, ages 3 and 4, ages 5 to 7, ages 8 to 12 and age 13 and over. "Check-in starts at 10 a.m.; we will start the 0 to 2 egg hunt promptly at 10:30 a.m.," she noted.

Participants will search for plastic eggs filled with candy and gluten-free fruit snacks, which will be hidden throughout the park by CCR volunteers. Special eggs will contain a ticket for a larger prize.

"We will have tons of prizes and a couple of bigger prizes for each age group, including the 13-plus and adults hunt," Gibson said, noting prizes for adults will include gift cards, with prizes of toys for boys and girls. "Every kid will walk away with some kind of prize that is age-appropriate."

Gibson pointed out that it has been nine years since an Easter egg hunt was held in the borough. "This event is very special and nostalgic to me," said Gibson, noting that her mother, Stephanie, once ran the event. "Elverson Borough is allowing us to have the egg hunt; they are super excited that we offered to put it on since the community hasn't had one in a while. Calla's Critter Rescue (is bringing) back such a memorable childhood event for the Elverson community."

Proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit CCR and Elverson Borough. In addition to the egg hunts, the event will feature food trucks, as well as a vendor offering coffee and doughnuts.

"We would prefer people to sign up via the form, but we expect walk-ins," said Gibson, noting that there will be no rain date. "We will have eggs in a bag for people to pick up if rain is an issue. They will still win the prizes if they get a special egg."

Gibson, a graduate of Twin Valley High School, founded Calla's Critter Rescue in May of 2021. She is also the head kennel manager and adoption manager at the former Diane's Pet Supplies and Adoption Center, 1486 S. Hanover St., Pottstown, which is now part of Animal House Project, a nonprofit organization. The building is also the location of Calla's Kitty Garden, where people can visit with adoptable cats while enjoying coffee and other beverages.
