Celebrate Valentine's Day With Creativity

Get ready to get creative over Valentine's weekend, when Horst Arts will offer a variety of events to celebrate the holiday.

Valentine's Say It With Paper will be held on Friday, Feb. 12, at 7 p.m. at the business, 17 N. Main St., Manheim. "Say It With Paper is a couples-only event that involves creating a fun word or image on a 9-by-12-inch hangable board using scraps of paper, glue and stencils," said Jason Horst, owner of Horst Arts.

On Saturday, Feb. 13, Horst Arts will offer Valentine's String Art at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. "Our String Art Date Night is also a couples-only event that has each of you trying your hand at classic string art using a board, nails, string and templates, while each couple enjoys individual chocolate fondue at their table," he explained.

On Sunday, Feb. 14, Horst Arts will offer Galentine's Junk Journal at 3 p.m. "Our Galentine's event, on Valentine's Day, involves creating a junk journal that contains special pockets, decorative papers, envelopes, buttons, etc., that can be used for recipes, as a travel log or any number of purposes," Horst said. "Galentine's celebrations are for ladies and their friends to celebrate friendship. Traditionally it's for those not in relationships, but our event is open to any lady - as long as they don't bring their significant other."

Horst Arts decided to hold these events to coincide with the Lititz Ice Walk, Horst said. "With capacity limitations this year, Lititz is hoping nearby towns will be able to help with offering food, entertainment and lodging," he stated. "Manheim wants to help fill that need, and we at Horst Arts are doing our part."

The inspiration for the events came from both Horst and his wife, who co-owns the business with him.

"My wife, Katherine, and I love participating in unique events whether locally or while traveling," he noted. "So, when it comes to brainstorming on concepts, we like developing events that aren't already offered in every town."

There's no need to be a creative genius to enjoy these events, he emphasized, adding that participants just need to be ready to have some fun.

"We all love chocolate. Flowers are nice. But events are memorable," he remarked. "You'll be in a unique space. You're going to laugh. And just maybe you'll create a fun piece of artwork that will be on your wall for years to come, reminding you of a fun event you were able to have in the midst of a pandemic."
