Cellists To Kick Off Concert Series

The Tapestry Cello Ensemble will kick off the 2021-22 Starlight Tea Concert series on Saturday, Sept. 11, at 7 p.m. at the Lancaster Church of the Brethren, 1601 Sunset Ave., Lancaster. All attendees are encouraged to wear a mask.

The ensemble is a recently formed group of professionals who are passionate about exploring the growing repertoire for cello chamber music. The group comprises Nancy Baun, Amy Visscher, Sean Neidlinger, and Daniel Shomper.

For the past five years, all members have taught at Cellospeak, a summer workshop for adult amateur cellists. It was from the delight of performing together that Tapestry was founded, sharing original music and arrangements of masterworks from the Renaissance, selections from the American Songbook, tangos, classical themes, and Broadway tunes.

Tapestry members have performed in many international music centers, played under some of the most acclaimed conductors, taught at colleges and universities throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, and studied with accomplished cellists.

After losing the 2020-21 concert season to COVID-19, the Starlight Tea Concert series will continue on the following Saturdays: Oct. 16, Rizzetta's Tones; Nov. 13, American Guild of Organists "Keyboard Connections," organ, piano, and harpsichord duos; Jan. 8, 2022, Starlight Tea Epiphany Concert; March 19, pianist Gianne Ge Zhu; and April 23, York Chamber Players with pianist Kenneth Osowski.

This free concert series is supported by patrons and freewill offerings received at the concerts. For more information about the series, contact Lancaster Church of the Brethren member Giny Mackey at 717-201-8450.
