Children's Choir to Present Spring Concert

The Mennonite Children's Choir of Lancaster (MCCL) will present its spring concert in the sanctuary at Derry Presbyterian Church, 248 E. Derry Road, Hershey, on Sunday, April 10, at 4 p.m. The concert is part of the church's 2021-22 Arts Alive cultural series.

Under the leadership of artistic director Rosemary Siegrist Blessing, the Mennonite Children's Choir of Lancaster (MCCL) serves approximately 160 children and youths in kindergarten through grade 12. Representing nearly 65 congregations, 45 schools, and 15 denominations, singers develop a repertoire of music from around the world and across time while being equipped for a lifetime of service to the church and community. The mission of MCCL is training children and youths to glorify Jesus Christ through excellent choral singing.

Founded in 1998, the MCCL began as a choir of 31 singers under the direction of artistic director Patricia Strong Myers. Since then, the program has grown to include auditioned and non-auditioned choral opportunities for children and youths across Lancaster, Lebanon, and Chester counties. Singers gather on Tuesday evenings from August through May to participate in rigorous classes and rehearsals to prepare for sharing times and a Christmas and spring concert series. In addition to the biannual concert series, the choirs collaborate with other arts organizations, participate in benefit concerts, and share music with schools and other community organizations.

A freewill offering will be received. Handicapped-accessible parking and an elevator are available. Face masks for audience members are optional.

Derry Presbyterian Church is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA). Worship services are held on Sundays at 8 and 10:30 a.m. and on Tuesdays from 6:15 to 6:45 p.m. For more information, call the church office at 717-533-9667 or visit http://www.derrypres.org.
