Chorale Slates Christmas Concerts

The Susquehanna Chorale, an adult chamber ensemble of 40 auditioned singers, will present its traditional Candlelight Christmas concert series.

The chorale will perform on Friday, Dec. 16, at 7:30 p.m. at the Calvin and Janet High Center for Worship and Performing Arts, Messiah University, 1 University Ave., Mechanicsburg; on Saturday, Dec. 17, at 7:30 p.m. at Leffler Chapel and Performance Center, Elizabethtown College, 1 Alpha Drive, Elizabethtown; and Sunday, Dec. 18, at 4 p.m. at Market Square Presbyterian Church, 20 S. Second St., Harrisburg. The programs will be conducted by founder and artistic director Linda L. Tedford.

A pre-concert instrumental recital will be presented by the Messiah University Brass 15 minutes prior to each performance. A reception for the audience and singers is planned following each program.

This year, the chorale's program will be enhanced with musical accompaniment by brass, organ, piano, violin, and percussion. Members of the Messiah University Brass will be featured in several selections, including a performance of John Rutter's three-movement "Gloria."

The chorale's opening processional, "Personent Hodie," will set the stage for an array of music, such as Jim Clements' "Gabriel's Message," Eric Whitacre's "Lux Aurumque," Jerry Rubino's setting of "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year," and "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy." Traditional songs and carols will follow, including an audience sing-along of Mack Wilberg's "Joy to the World." As the lights are dimmed and candles glow, the chorale will surround the audience for the traditional finale, "Silent Night."
