Church Celebrates Mortgage Payment

Wrightsdale Baptist Church marked a Celebration Sunday on June 13 in honor of paying off the church mortgage in full.

On May 2 during a special Love My Church Sunday, the church leadership invited the congregation to give special gifts to go toward paying down the church mortgage. The leadership announced in advance that all money given that weekend, either in-person or online, would go directly to paying off the mortgage. The church raised $75,000, which was enough to complete the mortgage payoff. In less than a decade, the church paid off a mortgage that originally totaled more than $1 million.

The Celebration Sunday on June 13 included worship, video greetings from former pastors, a mortgage-burning ceremony, and a vision-casting message from pastor Ryan Day. Following the worship service, the congregation assembled on the church grounds for the dedication of a weeping cherry tree to commemorate God's faithfulness to the church. The tree is also meant to be a living reminder that the church should seek to keep growing and prospering in the future.

The event concluded with more than 250 people attending a picnic and chicken barbecue at Little Britain Park. The meal included chicken prepared by the Wakefield Lions Club.
