Church choir festival planned

Zion Lutheran Church, 85 E. Brandt Blvd., Landisville, will host the second Landisville Area Church Choir Festival on Thursday, May 29, at 7 p.m., with the sanctuary doors opening at 6:30 p.m. Parking will be available in front of and behind the church, as well as in an overflow lot on Cooper Street.

The event will feature the choir from Zion Lutheran led by John Landis, singers from Hempfield Church of the Brethren led by Laura Meiser, singers from Landisville Mennonite Church led by Eric Henderson, and Hempfield High School (HHS) Chamber Singers directed by HHS choral director Alejandro Ramos.

Each group will perform two songs, and then all participants will collectively sing three pieces under the direction of guest conductor Ramos. The first number will be "Draw the Circle Wide," a folk-style hymn written by Gordon Light in 1994. The second combined piece will be "We Lift Up Our Voices," with music by Karen Marrolli and lyrics by Charles Anthony Silvestri. The final number will be "The Lord Bless You and Keep You," a farewell anthem.

A reception will be held in Zion Lutheran's social hall following the festival, featuring desserts provided by the members of Zion Lutheran. Everyone is invited to attend the reception.

The festival is free to attend, but a freewill offering will be received to benefit ZionArts. For more information about the church, call 717-898-2911 or email adminzelc@comcast.net.
