Church Posts Christmas Eve Service

St. John's Episcopal Church, 239 E. Market St., Marietta, will host a Christmas Eve service at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 24. The event will last about an hour.

The service will open with the carol "O Come, All Ye Faithful." The Rev. Julian Eibin will lead the liturgy and preach on Luke 2:1-20. The sermon will be introduced by the traditional carol "While Shepherd Watched Their Flocks by Night," with Karl E. Moyer at the organ.

Holy Communion will be offered to all baptized Christians, after which the congregation will light individual candles and sing "Silent Night" in the darkened church nave. After the benediction, the congregation will close the service by singing "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing," with words by Charles Wesley.

Conner Smeigh, a member of the parish, will begin the prelude music, playing "Good Christian Friends, Rejoice" on the French horn, followed by organ settings of that carol by Bach and Marcel Dupre.
