Church posts upcoming events

Church of the Apostles United Church of Christ, 1850 Marietta Ave., Lancaster, has planned several upcoming events.

"Mocktails & Meaning: Value of Local Journalism" will be presented on Thursday, Nov. 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. Participants will explore the value of local journalism with investigative reporter Brett Sholtis. Sholtis will share insights on the importance of journalism, including current pressing issues. Attendees will enjoy a seasonal winter sangria mocktail, a blend of oranges, cranberries and grapes. The church will also hold a Children's Christmas Celebration on Saturday, Dec. 7, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Children will hear the Christmas story from the Rev. Kathryn Kuhn, sing classic carols accompanied by the Lancaster Flute Ensemble and enjoy cookies and hot cocoa. There will also be free photos with Santa. The Vintage Brass Quintet will perform at the church on Sunday, Dec. 8, at 3 p.m. The audience will enjoy a diverse program featuring classical, jazz, pop and holiday tunes, with engaging spoken introductions.

Formed in 2011, the quintet includes Dan Newhouser, Dave Rutman, Katie College, Donald Wetzel and Jim Milbrand. The free concert is presented by the Apostles Academy of Arts & Sciences. A freewill offering will be received in lieu of tickets.
