Hempfield Church, 3050 Marietta Ave., Lancaster, will host its annual Quiet Christmas service on Sunday, Dec. 1, at 5 p.m. This year's theme is "Our Hope Is in What Is Coming."

This special contemplative service, which is open to the public, is for those grieving a loss of any kind or for those preferring a more low-key, meditative way to begin the Advent season. The service will include music, candle lighting, Scripture, and Communion. Sean Rajnic, a local licensed professional counselor, will give the message.
