Church to host African Children's Choir

The African Children's Choir will perform at Derry Presbyterian Church, 248 E. Derry Road, Hershey, as part of the ensemble's "Just as I Am" hymn tour. The performance will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 21, in the sanctuary. The "Just as I Am" program combines traditional hymns with African cultural sounds and a visual story of God's faithfulness.

The African Children's Choir is a nonprofit humanitarian and relief organization dedicated to helping Africa's vulnerable children today so they can help Africa tomorrow. The choir has performed before presidents, heads of state and most recently the queen of England, Queen Elizabeth II, for her diamond jubilee. The choir has also had sung alongside artists including Paul McCartney, Annie Lennox, Keith Urban, Mariah Carey, and Michael W. Smith. The African Children's Choir last performed at Derry Presbyterian in 2009.

Music for Life (MFL), the parent organization for the African Children's Choir, works in Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan, Nigeria, Ghana, and South Africa. MFL has educated over 52,000 children and impacted the lives of over 100,000 people through its relief and development programs during its history.

The upcoming concert is part of the church's 2023 Arts Alive! cultural series. A freewill offering will be received. Handicapped-accessible parking and an elevator are available.
