Civil War Roundable to meet

The Hershey Civil War Roundtable will meet on Thursday, Sept. 21, at 7:30 p.m. at Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 542, 8000 Derry St., Harrisburg. The meeting will also be livestreamed via Zoom.

Speaker Pete Miele will present the program, "19th-Century Medicine Through a Surgeon's Eyes." Miele will talk about William Williams Keen, who was a young medical student at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia when the Civil War erupted. He was thrown into treating suffering soldiers at the First Battle of Bull Run. Four years later, he emerged from the crucible of war as a pioneer in treating injuries of the nervous system.
