Club Aids Project Linus

The Service-Learning Club at Baron Elementary School recently completed a service activity for Project Linus, a nonprofit organization that provides new, handmade blankets to children in need. The students finished the edges of 22 no-sew blankets during their weekly meetings. Judy Payne, coordinator of Lititz/Lancaster Project Linus, was on hand to accept the blankets on April 1.

This project was one of many that the club spearheaded this school year. The club has been active planning Veterans Day activities, carrying out acts of kindness, helping with collections for the Manheim Central Food Pantry, and aiding the PTO in raising funds for the school's service dog's supplies, grooming, and vet visits. The students made posters, wrote announcements, produced videos, counted donations, and delivered items intended to bring good cheer.

When selecting Service-Learning Club members, teachers choose students who are good citizens and are excited about making a difference. The students research topics, brainstorm ideas, and meet with the school principal to present their ideas.
