Collection drive to aid cats and kittens

Cocoa Kitties and Derry Township Community Cats will hold a collection drive on Friday, June 7, from noon to 4 p.m. The event will take place at Pronio's Market, 236 W. Caracas Ave., Hershey, where it has been held for 12 years.

Needed items include Fancy Feast wet food for kittens, Friskies canned food pate, Purina kitten chow in the yellow bag, Purina indoor cat chow in the green bag, and Purina cat chow in the blue bag. Other items being sought are paper towels, 30-gallon trash bags, pellet litter, paper litter, clumping litter, disposable rubber gloves, and Dawn liquid dish detergent. People may also give monetary donations. Organizers will also sell Cocoa Kitties items, with all proceeds going to services for cats.

The trap, neuter, and release (TNR) cat program is free to residents of Derry Township and neighboring communities, who participate by trapping feral cats and kittens. The program is run by volunteers.

Donations help to provide vaccinations, spay and neuter services, post-surgical care and nourishment, secure housing, regular feeding, and more for cats and kittens. Volunteers also seek to find permanent homes for the animals.
