Columbia Park Rangers set events

The Columbia Park Rangers group held its annual meeting on Feb. 5 and announced several cleanup projects. Formed in 2001, the Columbia Park Rangers group is a volunteer organization dedicated to the beautification and maintenance of Columbia's parks and public areas. Volunteers are invited to participate. Tools, drinks, and snacks will be provided.

Scheduled cleanup projects include Glatfelter Memorial Field at 8 a.m. on Saturday, March 25; River Park at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 6; Locust Street Park at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 15; Janson Park at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 4; and Makle Park at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 31. An additional cleanup will be held at Rotary Park on a date to be determined.

In addition, an Adopt-A-Highway cleanup for members only will begin at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, April 20, and members will meet at Front Street under the Veterans Memorial Bridge. A Columbia Borough cleanup will take place at 8 a.m. on Friday, April 21, and participants will meet at Locust Street Park. Downtown tree mulching will begin at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 6, at Fifth and Locust streets.

The organization also awarded $2,500 to the Janson Foundation for a new playground at Janson Park and $1,000 to the Glatfelter Memorial Field Trust for the restoration of the brick entrance at Glatfelter Memorial Field. In addition to cleanup projects, the Columbia Park Rangers place U.S. flags in downtown Columbia on holidays and special events throughout the year.
