Colyer Hits 1,000 Point Plateau in A-C Wins

The Pequea Valley boys' basketball team was involved in three high-scoring games in as many nights, including Lancaster-Lebanon League games against Annville-Cleona and Columbia.

In a Monday night contest at home, the Braves hosted Tulpehocken in non-league action. The Trojans snuck past Pequea with a 24-17 fourth quarter and galloped away with a 72-62 victory. The two teams headed into the final stanza with the Braves trailing by only three points. The Braves' third-quarter run helped close a seven-point halftime deficit.

Devon Colyer had a team-leading 21 points for the Braves. He connected from three-point range three times. Antonio Lazar and Nevin Stoltzfus finished with 15 and 12, points, respectively, both also contributing with three-point baskets. All six of Luke Peifer's points came from long distance.

Tulpehocken sophomore guard David Bednarczyk led all scorers with 28 points.

The Braves tipped off the L-L League portion of their schedule against the Dutchmen on Tuesday. In a bizarre second half, PV outscored Annville 24-9 in the third quarter and had to plug the hole in the dam as the Dutchmen came back with a 24-13 run in the fourth. Pequea Valley survived 65-47.

The game had a special significance for Colyer, who reached his 1,000 point. The senior claimed the top total for points on the night, pouring in 22, including a pair of treys. His 20th point helped him reach the four digits in career scoring.

Stoltzfus scored 16 and Peifer kept the points coming, contributing 11.

Nicholas Malloy led Annville with 17 points, including three treys.

The Braves hit the road on Wednesday night, visiting Columbia. The Crimson Tide, already holding a 39-28 halftime lead, outscored the Braves 22-12 in the third quarter enroute to a 79-54 victory. Pequea fell to 1-2 (1-1 league).

Colyer and the Tide's Michael Poole, Jr. shared the game's top scoring honors with 20 points each. Colyer had a season-best four treys. Stoltzfus and Lazar each scored nine with all of Stoltzfus's points coming from downtown.

GIRLS' BASKETBALL

Pequea Valley played host to Columbia in a Section Five girls' basketball game on Wednesday evening. The Crimson Tide, led by Brie Droege's 22-point effort, posted a 59-43 victory.

The Braves' scoring leaders were Brooke Liney and Rebecca Cox. Liney drilled four three-point shots and went 2-for-2 at the foul line for a total of 14 points. Cox scored eight points while Shania Stoltzfus and Sarah Arment each scored six.
