Comfort dog training program set

Trinity Hummelstown, 210 W. Main St., Hummelstown, will host comfort dog training classes weekly beginning Tuesday, July 30, at 6:30 p.m. and running through August. The classes will be led by certified teacher Cheryl Daily.

"A good candidate for training is a dog that's friendly, outgoing, and not shy," Daily said. "They should be unafraid of sudden movements, comfortable in different situations - like seeing people in hats or with umbrellas - and able to be around all ages. They should also be willing to go up and greet someone, to sit to be petted, and be able to watch their owner to know what you want them to do."

The classes are not behavioral training; dogs must already understand basic commands and have a good temperament.

All breeds of adult dogs older than age 2 are welcome. Once certified, comfort dogs and their owners may be able to volunteer at Trinity as well as through programs at schools, airports, hospitals, and other locations.

Space is limited. To register, email coordinator Laura Waller at media@tumchtown.org or call the church office at 717-566-0252.
