Community Events Planned In Memorial Park

A National Night Out celebration will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 2, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Memorial Park, located along Park Avenue and South Lime Street in Quarryville. Every year on the first Tuesday of August, communities across the U.S. come together to build neighborhood camaraderie and strengthen community-police ties.

The event will include a dunk tank and carnival games, a tug-of-war competition, ice cream and food trucks, live music by Small Town Troubadours and a JeffSTAT helicopter landing. Police, EMS and firefighting equipment will be displayed, and equine officer McGillicuddy will visit with attendees. Children and youth organizations and community service organizations will be represented at the event. Community members are encouraged to bring donations for the Solanco Food Bank.

Local residents are also invited to participate in a Break the Chains benefit ride to support the Quarryville Police Foundation and raise awareness of drug overdose. This event will take place on Saturday, Aug. 6, at 9 a.m., with the ride beginning at noon. Organizations will be on-site to provide information on prevention, drug addiction and recovery. There is a fee to participate in the ride, with a discount for passengers.
