Community invited to light up the dance floor

The Caernarvon Township Parks and Recreation Committee will host a free glow party, featuring music, dancing and snacks, on Saturday, Nov. 16, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Caernarvon Township Municipal Building, 3307 Main St., Morgantown.

The glow-in-the-dark dance party will feature items that glow under a black light, providing a colorful experience for attendees. A DJ will provide the music.

"We will have all sorts of glow supplies - glow sticks, beach balls and sunglasses - everything that glows," explained Erin McMullen, a member of the parks and recreation committee, noting that attendees are encouraged to wear white or light colors. "Under the black light, everything will glow in the dark."

She said a glow party was held for the first time last November at the township building. "We had 100 people (in attendance). It was a mix (of people of all ages). We had a little 3-year-old and 10-year-olds with their friends having the time of their lives. It's for kids of any age that would enjoy a dance and a DJ. If you want to bring kids in strollers, there are no limitations."

She noted that it is not necessary to be a resident of Caernarvon Township to attend. Light refreshments, including drinks, popcorn and chips, will be provided. All children in attendance must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Registration is required in advance so that enough glow supplies can be ordered. Registrations will be accepted up until the day of the event. A link to register is available at http://www.facebook.com/CaernarvonPandR. Those with questions may email McMullen at emcmullen@kw.com.

McMullen is also gearing up for the township's opening night of the Caernarvon Christmas Village on Saturday, Dec. 7, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Friendship Park, 3287 North St., Morgantown. Activities will include a Christmas tree lighting, visits with Santa, free hot chocolate and fire pits for roasting s'mores.

The event will also mark the opening of Santa's Village in the park, which consists of a series of small playhouses that children may visit any time during the holiday season. McMullen decorates each of the playhouses with a different theme, and each one contains a small gift for children.

"We will have 30 houses this year. We just put on the final touches," she noted.
