Concert to benefit Alzheimer's Association

The Auscultation Brass will present a Christmas concert on Sunday, Dec. 3, at 3 p.m. at Glossbrenner United Methodist Church, Church and Angle streets, Mount Joy. Proceeds will benefit the Alzheimer's Association.

The Auscultation Brass was formed in 1985 in Lancaster and includes physicians from various specialties. Even though they chose to pursue a career in medicine, music has always played a large part of their lives. The group practices weekly and performs numerous concerts yearly for various charities and benefits, retirement communities, local churches, and medical events. Over the years, the group has accumulated a large repertoire of classical, jazz, and popular brass ensemble music. It also funds the Auscultation Brass Scholarship through the Pennsylvania Academy of Music.

The ensemble consists of Drs. Rolf Andersen, Bob Belser Jr., Dan Diehl, Andy Lutzkanin and Bill Roberts on trumpet; Dr. Bill Lovett and nurse Kirby Strohmaier on French horn; Dr. Joe Breslin on euphonium; Drs. Michael Chambers, Marguerite Duane, Scott Paist on trombone; and Drs. Tom Andersen and Jerry Rothacker on tuba.

Light refreshments will be provided following the concert.

The concert is being presented by Harry's Heroes, which was formed to help combat Alzheimer's. It is named in memory of Harry W. Reheard, who passed away in 2002, and consists of Harry's 95-year-old wife, Mary; his daughter, Linda; Paula Remley; Pam and Russ Micelli; and David and Patti Audette. Mary has been the top raiser of funds for the Walk to End Alzheimer's for many years, and Linda has earned second place. The group has raised nearly $400,000 for the cause since it began participating in the walk.
