Concert to feature marches

The New Holland Band will present a concert titled "The Art of the March" on Saturday, April 13, at 7 p.m. in the chapel at Garden Spot Village, 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland. Once on campus, attendees may follow the directional signs to the chapel.

Many people are familiar with John Philip Sousa, also known as the march king, but other composers have also written marches for various occasions, such as the coronation of a king, or larger productions such as operas. Selections in the upcoming concert will include Sir William Walton's "Crown Imperial," Julius Fucik's "Entry of the Gladiators," Robert Browne Hall's "March Funebre," and John Williams' "Raider's March." Attendees will hear the stories behind various marches, including a lesser-known Sousa composition, "Mother Goose March."
