Conestoga Christian School Sets Chicken Barbecue, Auction

Conestoga Christian School (CCS) will hold its 49th annual chicken barbecue and auction on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 14 and 15. All proceeds will benefit the school, which offers classes for students in preschool through 12th grade.

The event will begin with the barbecue dinner on Oct. 14, which will be takeout only. Dinners will be available to purchase at the door until sold out. Dinners may be picked up in the school's front parking lot from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Also on Oct. 14, a gift certificate store will be open outside the school, and there will be homemade apple dumplings available for purchase.

A live auction will be held on Oct. 15 from 9 a.m. until the last item is sold. The auction will feature a selection of favorite items, experiences, artwork and quilts, as well as jellies and jams and homemade yogurt donated each year by CCS families.

"Donations have been coming in strong," said Michelle Parris, CCS admissions director. "We have a Discovery Flight from Chester County Aviation, a fine dining experience with one of our school families and couple of destinations that were donated. One is at a Tennessee lake house and another is at a beach house in Ocean City, N.J."

In addition, each class at the school has designed a themed basket for the auction. Basket themes this year will include Date Night, Summer Fun, No Pressure Dinner, Home Decor, Hunting, Local Blessings, Grilling, Camping, the Pampered Pup, Helping Hands and Something for the Graduate. Bidding on class baskets will start at 9:30 a.m.

CCS students in the art and ceramics independent study classes led by teacher Eirene Groff have also created items that will be up for bids, including paintings and a quilt. Groff will place her own oil painting in the auction as well.

"Right after the class baskets are auctioned, we will give the bidders an opportunity to raise their paddles to make a donation toward our special project," said Parris. "In the past it's been a new copier, a bus and picnic tables. This year, our special project is our capital campaign. With the amount of growth in our enrollment, we would like to build additional classrooms."

Coffee, breakfast sandwiches, doughnuts, homemade yogurt, fruit and individual apple dumplings will also be offered for sale at the Cougar Cafe on Oct. 15.

CCS is holding an online auction as well. Bidding will start on Thursday, Oct. 13, at 8 a.m. and run through Tuesday, Oct. 25, at noon. Online auction items will include handmade crafts, meal packages from the Beam and Kurtz family farms and a Christmas tapestry class from Flourish Flowers in East Earl.
