County commissioners laud student musicians

The Dauphin County commissioners recently recognized several Hershey High School and Lower Dauphin High School students who earned selection to the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) 2023 All-State Festival.

Two students from Hershey High School were chosen for the All-State Concert Band: Jesse Mullins was selected for alto saxophone, and Matias von Louw was selected for tenor saxophone. The All-State Orchestra included violist Emma Starr and violinists Claire Tian and Alicia Xie, all from Hershey High School, as well as Lower Dauphin student Joseph Goduto on viola. Lower Dauphin student Aden Weigle was selected to the All-State Chorus, as well as the 2023 All-Eastern and All-National Choirs.

The students were joined by their teachers, Liz Colpo, director of choirs at Lower Dauphin; Brandon Buterbaugh, director of bands at Hershey; and Brian Buterbaugh, orchestra director at Hershey. Also at the PMEA All-State Festival, Brian Buterbaugh received the 2023 Orchestra Director of the Year Award from the Pennsylvania-Delaware String Teachers Association.
