County Schedules Parks Programs

Lancaster County Department of Parks and Recreation will offer programs to the community. Unless otherwise noted, there is a per-person fee for the programs, and activities will take place at the Environmental Center in Lancaster County Central Park, 1 Nature's Way, Lancaster. Additionally, unless noted otherwise, registration and payment are required by noon on the business day before the event. A Full Moon Scavenger Hunt for people of all ages is set for Friday, Jan. 29, from 7 to 8 p.m. Participants will join a naturalist to find items in the Environmental Center area. Flashlights are suggested. There will be a small prize at the end for those who find all items on the list.

Family Hiking 101: Money Rocks County Park, designed for individuals age 6 and older, will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 1, at Money Rocks County Park. Participants will join a naturalist for an afternoon hike to explore the winter woods. Participants should bring water and a snack, dress for the weather, and meet at the parking lot located at 936 Narvon Road, Narvon. In the case of seriously inclement weather, the program will be postponed one week.

Homeschool Wednesday: Winter Bounty: Seeds, Nuts, Fruits will be offered from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 3. The homeschool science class is open to students ages 8 to 12. Having identified deciduous trees, participants will extend their insights to include shrubs and herbaceous plants in the search for winter food sources. Participants should plan for outdoor activity. Children under age 8 are welcome if accompanying older siblings and should be registered by phone.

Thursday in the Park: Hearts in Nature, for 6- to 9-year-olds, will take place on Thursday, Feb. 4, from 1 to 2 p.m. and from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Children will view diverse examples of heart shapes found in the natural world before heading outdoors to find their own. Participants should dress for the weather and plan for outdoor activities. Children under age 6 are welcome if accompanying older siblings.

A Winter Photo Scavenger Hunt, for people of all ages, has been set for Friday, Feb. 5, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Contestants will travel in groups or families to find the items on the scavenger hunt list and take photos of them. A modest prize will be awarded.
