CV Lacrosse Sports an Overall Record of 9-4

Split results in two nonleague showdowns advanced the Buckskin overall record to 9-4 last week, with the team rebounding for a 16-5 triumph over Daniel Boone after falling 14-7 to Penn Manor.

The Bucks sport a 5-2 league record, still battling it out amongst the top contenders of Section Two as the season enters its final weeks.

In their 16-5 win over Daniel Boone on the 26th, a stifling CV defense held Daniel Boone scoreless in the first half. Meanwhile on the other end of the field, the Bucks' offense notched a total of 12 goals before the break.

"Going into the Daniel Boone game, we were focused on getting back on track," pointed out head coach Nick DiPiano.

Daniel Boone was able to get on the scoreboard in the second half of action, ultimately netting five goals, but couldn't make up much ground with CV notching an additional four.

Keller Dillman (4g, 1a) led the offensive surge that resulted in 42 CV shots on goal. Jeff Fisher and Hunter Silvaggio each netted three goals and Zach Fisher complimented his two goals with three assists.

Rounding out the CV scoring was a goal apiece from Tyson Zwaska, Kyle Jankowski, Gavin Winkelspecht, and Gabe Catalan.

Freshman Soren Stoltzfus was guarding the goal for CV and came up with three saves.

"It was our goal to get everyone in and we did that," noted the coach. "We had some players score their first points of the year and allowed some of our youngest players to get some quality game time."

Two days prior, the club fell 17-4 to the Comets with J. Fisher's four goals leading CV. Additional goals came from Z. Fisher, Silvaggio, and Conrad Dillman who each scored once.

Though the Bucks were relentless, firing 41 shots on goal, Comet keeper Nick Hollinger thwarted their efforts with 20 saves.

"We went into the Penn Manor game a little short-handed due to injuries. We were able to keep up for the first part of the game. Ultimately Penn Manor took advantage of some key mistakes and we were unable to overcome them in the end," acknowledged DiPiano.

TRACK

Last Monday CV track hosted McCaskey in addition to a senior night celebration. While McCaskey took the collective wins, 100-48 girls and 89-61 boys, there was plenty of success and comradery to celebrate in the senior send-off.

The hurdles produced a great showing from the Lady Bucks with Jessica Koenig claiming the high hurdles and Grace Lapp securing the win in the 300 hurdles.

Ellie Hershey produced the top high jump of the day and Maya Longhi turned in a winning performance in the pole vault.

For the boys, CV put up a strong showing in the races with victories for Owen Linder (200 meter) Joshua Rennekamp (400), and Emmanuel Gitonga (800). Each of them also contributed to a pair of relay successes with a foursome of Tarius Jackson, Rennekamp, Nicholas Tran, and Linder taking the 4x100, and Rennekamp, Linder, Kyle Thrush, and Gitonga the 4x400.

Loago Snavely picked up double triumphs claiming both hurdle events.

SOFTBALL

The Lady Bucks got behind Lampeter-Strasburg on the 28th and couldn't make up enough ground, eventually losing 11-2.

Despite trailing by seven, CV put together a rally in the bottom of the fifth that produced two runs, kickstarted by a single from Kylie Metzler. Rhiannon Henry followed suit and sent a line drive to center scoring Metzler and Isabella Rodriguez, but the Pioneers defense squelched the comeback and retired the side.

Laken Smith supplied CV's other two hits.

Payton Stoeckl struck out three in the circle for the Bucks.

A trip to McCaskey last Monday produced a 20-2 Lady Bucks win in just four innings that featured 16 CV hits.

Olivia Mellinger supplied the most hits with three, along with two RBIs and four runs scored. Henry, Laken Smith, Lexi Weitzel, and Kassie Horning each had two hits, and Isabella Rodriguez, Victoria Rhoads, Alexa Freeburn, Anya Ditzler, and Delaney Castagna, each contributed one.

Mellinger picked up two of her three hits in the first inning, starting a rally that led to a 10-0 Buckskin advantage after one inning. Smith led the team in RBIs, sending her first of four across the plate with her double in the first, scoring Henry.

Henry wasn't just a pivotal part of the offense but picked up the win in the circle. The sophomore struck out seven batters while only allowing three hits, two runs, and walking one.

BASEBALL

Buckskin baseball continues to press on despite some tough recent losses.

Last Wednesday the club traveled to Lampeter-Strasburg and fell 8-2.

Heads up base running from Caden Miller resulted in a late game run, and a double from Logan Kline drove in Nate Kirchner for the other.

Hosting McCaskey on Monday, both teams came out swinging and registered first inning runs, but McCaskey's late game momentum handed the Bucks a 10-2 defeat.

Kline was saddled with the loss, striking out two during his five innings on the mound, scattering nine hits and eight runs.

Owen Fisher and Tucker Hastings each collected two hits, and Hastings and Kline each batted in a run for CV.

At Cedar Crest, the Bucks showed late game tenacity, registering two runs in the seventh inning, but the rally left them just short in a 5-2 loss.

Titus York supplied one of CV's two hits for the day, a two RBI single in the seventh that scored both Kline and Miller. Josh Pattison was behind the other CV hit.

Hastings threw for five and two-thirds inning taking the loss while striking out four Falcon batters.

TENNIS

Last Monday CV hosted the Futures Invitational and earned a collective win with a five-point edge over second place Pequea Valley.

Sophomores Henry McQuate Krahnke (No. 2) and Nolan Miller (No. 4) each picked up a singles win, and in doubles action Cooper Tardibuono and Parker McGaulley overcame their opponents from PV to rise to a No. 1 doubles triumph.

In a head-to-head match on the 22nd, the Bucks swept McCaskey 5-0 on the 22nd.

Yuji Wenger, Nolan High, and Jason Schlegelmilch pulled in singles victories, while duos of McQuate Krahnke and Miller, and Grady Ray and Ivan Shrom added the doubles wins.

GIRLS' LACROSSE

The Lady Bucks lacrosse team has been on both sides of a runaway game in recent days, falling 23-3 to Manheim Township on the 27th, but rising to a 16-1 triumph over Elizabethtown on the 23rd.

Against the Streaks, Abigail Morley notched all three CV goals, two in the first half and one in the second, but Township's high powered 29 shots on goal proved to be insurmountable.

The script was flipped in the previous matchup against Etown, whom CV outshot 28-7, creating a 10-1 lead at the midway break and following up with six unanswered goals in the second half.

Morley again led the offense, this time acquiring seven CV goals. Ellie Livingston and Amanda Yingling netted three apiece, and Jessica Chen, Annika Bredeman, and Jordyn Hironimus each supplied one.

CV keeper Jamie Handwerger scooped up six saves in each of the contests.
