D-Day presentation, exhibit planned

The Elizabethtown Preservation Associates Inc., doing business as Winters Heritage House Museum, recently announced the opening of a new exhibit commemorating the 80th anniversary of D-Day and acknowledging World War II's impact on the Elizabethtown community and the surrounding area.

The exhibit will feature physical artifacts from World War II, and war stories told by Elizabethtown veterans and their families, including the account of 1st Lt. William Herr Myers, who went missing on Nov. 27, 1945, when his plane disappeared in Malaysia.

The exhibit will open with a special presentation on Thursday, June 6, at 7 p.m. in which Myers' cousin, Louis Herr, will share the story of events on the day the plane crashed and what the family has endured trying to bring him home.

Museum director Teresa St. Angelo will share accounts of World War II from Elizabethtown residents, and museum manager and veteran Lauren Fox will share a historical synopsis of D-Day events. Additionally, a Quilts of Valor representative will present a quilt to a veteran with Elizabethtown connections.

The exhibit will be open for viewing from 4 to 6:45 p.m. on June 6. After opening night, the exhibit will run during normal business hours on Wednesdays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Friday, July 5, with extended hours from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, June 14, for Elizabethtown's Second Friday events and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 22.

Winters Heritage House Museum is located at 47 E. High St., one-half block from the town square in Elizabethtown. Two of the buildings included in the museum property date to the founding of the town.
