Dauphin County, TCRPC receive award

A joint wastewater management initiative of Dauphin County and the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission (TCRPC) was recently recognized as an Innovative Community and Governmental Initiative as part of the 2023 Governor's Awards for Local Government Excellence. The award was presented to the Dauphin County commissioners and the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission during an awards ceremony held April 12 at the State Museum of Pennsylvania in Harrisburg.

The winning program was a joint effort by the county and TCRPC to address the growing range of stormwater management, water quality and flooding issues in the county. In recent years, the cost to address these issues has risen due to the increasing complexity of the impacts and environmental regulations associated with stormwater management.

The Regional Water Resource Enhancement Program was designed to cut municipal costs by 60% to 90% percent by providing a central framework, offering strategic partnerships and coordinating efforts between municipalities. To date, 15 municipalities are participating in the program.

"Dauphin County is honored to be a partner in this innovative program, which has resulted in a more collaborative approach that helps improve efficiencies and save taxpayer dollars," said the Dauphin County commissioners. "This is a clear example of how intergovernmental cooperation can benefit our communities."

Dauphin County and TCRPC were among 15 communities, five organizations, and eight individuals from across Pennsylvania to be recognized for excellent service as part of the 27th annual Governor's Awards for Local Government Excellence. Dauphin County Commissioner George P. Hartwick III was also honored with a Career Recognition Award during the ceremony.
