David Wilcox will offer an evening of music and storytelling

When American folk singer-songwriter David Wilcox entertains at Elizabethtown College, audiences can expect an evening of music and storytelling.

"If you enjoy blues, soul music, rock 'n' roll, funk, mellow vibes and fantastic lyrics, David Wilcox is a performer you'll truly enjoy," said Jesse Waters, director of Bowers Writers House and community impact at the college. "David often prefaces his songs with some context that adds backstory to his music, but the concert will be just that - a concert of his songbook, especially his newest album, 'My Good Friends.'"

Wilcox will perform in Gibble Auditorium on the campus, 1 Alpha Drive, Elizabethtown, from 8 to 9:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 1.

"I've been a fan of David's music for almost 30 years, and I very much wanted to share his talent and soulful sound with our communities," Waters said. "He's such a warm and wonderful performer; anyone of any age will thoroughly enjoy his performance."

Wilcox has released more than 20 albums that have resonated with a dedicated core of fans and earned praise from national publications such as the New York Times and Rolling Stone throughout a 30-plus-year career.

The Ohio native with a warm baritone won top honors in the 2018 USA Songwriting Competition for "We Make the Way by Walking" from his album "The View From the Edge."

Wilcox found his artistic muse in North Carolina during the mid-1980s and released his debut album, "The Nightshift Watchman," in 1987. This led to winning the prestigious Kerrville Folk Festival in 1988 and a four-album stint with A&M Records, starting with 1989's "How Did You Find Me Here," which sold 100,000 copies by word of mouth.

"I'm looking forward to coming to play at Elizabethtown College," Wilcox said. "I have been enjoying fresh inspiration this fall, and I'll have some brand-new songs to sing."

The concert is hosted by the Bowers Writers House, which has provided an interdisciplinary venue for presentation, performance, expression and study for almost 15 years.

"This concert fits perfectly with our programming," Waters shared. "Over that time span, we've brought to our on- and off-campus communities more than 350 visiting performers, writers, scientists, artists and personalities, and David's presence will be a wonderful addition to our list of guests."

He emphasized that Bowers Writers House may be located on the college campus, but its programming is for everyone.

"This is 'your house' too! We welcome all members of our community to our programming, and we hope to see more and more folks who haven't visited the college for one of our evening events," Waters commented.
