The Lampeter-Strasburg Democratic Club has presented its 2024 Educational Scholarship Award for Community Service to Bethany Helms, a member of the Lampeter-Strasburg High School Class of 2024. This award of $1,000 is given annually to a graduating Lampeter-Strasburg High School student who has demonstrated outstanding commitment to community service.

Throughout her time in high school, Helms accumulated more than 200 hours of service to the community. Her activities included assisting an elderly resident with yard work, assisting with youth field hockey camps, teaching vacation Bible school, serving as manager for a girls' lacrosse team, and participating in a community car wash.

Using her musical talents, Helms has been a member of the L-S concert and marching bands and the Tri-M Music Honor Society. Through her church, Westminster Presbyterian, Bethany participated in mission trips to work with Native Americans in Montana and inner-city youths in Easton and Philadelphia; she has also participated in projects locally.

Helms plans to attend Geneva College in Beaver Falls with the goal of becoming a social studies teacher.
