Derry Township Scout Attains Eagle Rank

Michael Astfalk Jr., a member of Troop 594 in Middletown, achieved the rank of Eagle Scout this past summer. Family, friends, and dignitaries gathered to mark the achievement at a Court of Honor in October.

Astfalk, a freshman honors student at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe and a 2021 Bishop McDevitt High School graduate, completed his Eagle project at his alma mater Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary School. Astfalk created a paved patio, a stone walkway, and four raised planting beds for the school's outdoor classroom, the Nature Lab.

Astfalk joined Pack 113 as a Tiger Scout in first grade. He went on to become a member of the Order of the Arrow, Scouting's honor society; attend the National Jamboree in 2017; and complete National Youth Leadership Training. Astfalk is Troop 594's 60th Eagle Scout since its chartering at American Legion Post 594 in the 1970s.
