Discussion forum plans sessions

The Exploring Growing Together Discussion Forum will hold sessions on Thursdays in September. The group will meet from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Room 103 on the lower level of Lititz United Methodist Church, 201 Market St.

On Sept. 7 and 14, attendees may discuss "Life as We Knew It" by Susan Beth Pfeffer. The story focuses on Miranda, a high school sophomore who takes shelter with her family when a meteor knocks the moon closer to Earth. Told in a year's worth of journal entries, "Life as We Knew It" chronicles the human struggle to hold onto hope in an increasingly desperate and unfamiliar world.

Discussion will focus on "The Tattooist of Auschwitz" by Heather Morris on Sept. 21 and 28, led by Shanna Boley. The book follows Lale Sokolov, a Slovakian Jew forcibly transported to the concentration camps at Auschwitz-Birkenau. When his captors discover that he speaks several languages, Sokolov is put to work as a tattooist, tasked with permanently marking his fellow prisoners.

Attendees may bring a lunch to eat during the discussion. Masks are optional for attendees.

The forum discussion series aims to offer a safe learning environment in which to discuss and explore diverse topics and beliefs.
