DPA Resumes Live Musicals With "Mary Poppins"

Donegal Performing Arts (DPA) recently presented Disney's "Mary Poppins" - the first musical it has performed in front of a live audience since March 2019, when the members of the Class of 2022 were freshmen. During the pandemic, DPA livestreamed its productions.

Although both March 12 presentations of "Mary Poppins" were rescheduled due to inclement weather, the students were able to perform for record-breaking crowds on March 11 and 13, as well as in the rescheduled evening shows on March 13 and 14. DPA, a self-sustaining organization, was able to rebound financially so that it may continue to bring the arts to Donegal communities.

Aubree Jones, who played Mary Poppins, was one of the freshmen involved in DPA in 2019. Now a graduating senior, she said, "We're finally back to normal and able to have live theater, which is such a big thing in small communities like Donegal. Closing 'Mary Poppins' gave me a sense of peace knowing the club returned to exactly how I want to see it in future years."

Senior Ryan Bedi, who played Bert, shared the impact that performing in front of a live audience had on him. "When you can touch the hearts of people you don't even know, that feeling compares to nothing else," he said.
