EAHS singers chosen for county, district chorus

Choral students from Elizabethtown Area High School (EAHS) were recently selected for music festivals.

Thirteen choral students from EAHS participated in the Lancaster-Lebanon Music Educators Association (LLMEA) County Chorus festival. The event, held on Jan. 6, at ELCO High School, featured a performance by 250 students, directed by Alan Mudrick, former director of choral activities at Hempfield High School.

Student musicians from LLMEA member districts were selected for the event through a rigorous round-robin process. Representing Elizabethtown Area High School were Olivia Gable, Claire Hanlon, and Marley Stauffer, soprano 1; Julia Laszakovits and Makayla Weaver, soprano 2; Calla Stoltzfus, alto 1; Audra Kuntz and James Mott, tenor 1; Brendan Fritz, bass 1; and Scott Creason, Garrett Messick, Gabe Rottet, and Luke Thompson, bass 2.

LLMEA promotes music education, provides professional development opportunities for music educators, and organizes events and performances involving students in the region.

Additionally, seven EAHS choral students participated in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) District 7 Chorus event held Jan. 26 to 27 at Lebanon Valley College's Miller Chapel.

The event featured an ensemble of 250 students from schools in Lancaster, York, Dauphin, Lebanon, Adams, and Berks counties, all selected through a rigorous audition process. The EAHS participants included Scott, Brendan, Olivia, Claire, Julia, and Calla, all singing the same voice parts as they did at County Chorus. Joining them was Josie Sirinides, soprano 2. The guest conductor was Ryan Beeken, director of choral activities at Wichita State University.

PMEA is a statewide nonprofit organization that promotes and supports music education programs in schools and communities. PMEA seeks to advance comprehensive and innovative music education for all students.
