ELANCO Library plans activities

The Eastern Lancaster County (ELANCO) Library, 11 Chestnut Drive, New Holland, will offer a variety of events and programs to the community. Registration is not required unless noted. For details, visit http://www.elancolibrary.org or contact 717-354-0525 or adagostino@elancolibrary.org.

The library offers various activities regularly. In September, these will include Music and Movement, for children birth to age 6 with a parent or caregiver, on Saturday, Sept. 7, at 10:30 a.m.; Readers' Roundtable Book Discussion on Monday, Sept. 9, at 2 p.m.; Hooks and Needles Yarn Craft Club, for people of all ages who knit or crochet, on Sept. 9 at 6:30 p.m.; Lego Creation Club, recommended for kids age 8 and up as well as siblings, on Thursday, Sept. 12, at 6 p.m.; Preschool Story Time, for children ages 3 to 6, every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m.; and Toddler Thursdays, for children from birth to age 3, every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Siblings are welcome to join in at Preschool Story Time and Toddler Thursdays.

A Homeschool Curriculum and Book Swap will be held on Friday, Sept. 6. From 11 to 11:30 a.m., homeschooling families may drop off educational materials they no longer need and enjoy light refreshments and social time. From 11:30 a.m. to noon, attendees may take materials without charge or condition on a first-come, first-served basis.

The swap will be followed immediately at noon by another event for homeschool families, "How to Use the Library." Attendees will learn what resources the library offers to help supplement their curriculum. Free pizza will be provided. No registration required.

Children of all ages accompanied by a parent or other caregiver may read aloud to Pepper the Labrador retriever during Read Aloud with Pepper the Dog! on Sept. 7 at 2 p.m.

Introduction to Mental Health and Mental Health Resources in Lancaster County will be presented on Saturday, Sept. 14, at 2 p.m. Dave Krahling, program manager for Mental Health America Lancaster, will provide an introduction to mental health and the mental health resources available to residents of Lancaster County.

Migratory Birds: Pathways in Peril will take place on Monday, Sept. 16, at 6 p.m. Attendees will learn about the journeys migratory birds embark on each year, the threats that they face, and what people can do to help them survive.

The Friends of ELANCO Library will host a 50% off "Clean the Closet" book sale on Saturday, Sept. 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will make room for new donations. Teen Tuesdays will offer an hour of crafts, games, snacks, and more for tweens and teens on Tuesdays at 3:30 p.m. during the school year. No registration is required. In September, the program will feature icebreakers and games on Sept. 3, a Mental Health "De-Stress" Day at the Library on Sept. 10, a library scavenger hunt on Sept. 17, and a STEM Marble Roller Coasters program on Sept. 24.
