ELANCO Library posts activities

The Eastern Lancaster County (ELANCO) Library, 11 Chestnut Drive, New Holland, will offer a variety of events and programs to the community. Registration is not required unless noted. For details, visit http://www.elancolibrary.org or contact 717-354-0525 or adagostino@elancolibrary.org.

The library offers various activities regularly. In July, these will include Music and Movement, for children birth to age 6 with a parent or caregiver, on Saturday, July 6, at 10:30 a.m.; Hooks and Needles Yarn Craft Club, for people of all ages who knit or crochet, on Monday, July 8, at 6:30 p.m.; Lego Creation Club on Thursday, July 11, at 6 p.m.; Preschool Story Time, for children ages 3 to 6, every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m.; and Toddler Thursdays, for children from birth to age 3, every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Siblings are welcome to join in at Preschool Story Time and Toddler Thursdays.

United States History Trivia Night will be Monday, July 1, at 6 p.m. People of all ages may test their knowledge of U.S. history, and the program will also include a dramatic reading of the Declaration of Independence in celebration of the Fourth of July.

Cartooning Made Easy will be offered for teens and tweens on Tuesday, July 2, at 1:30 p.m. Ed Klein will instruct students on the basics of cartooning. Registration is required.

Children of all ages accompanied by a parent or other caregiver may read aloud to Pepper the Labrador retriever during Read with Pepper the Pup! on July 6 at 2 p.m.

Ready for Kindergarten! will be offered on Tuesdays, July 9, 16, and 23, at 3 p.m. For children entering kindergarten in the 2024-25 school year with a parent or other adult caregiver, this program will focus on helping children to develop skills like name recognition, listening skills, and following directions. Preregistration is required.

Citizen Science for Teens will be held on Wednesday, July 10, at 3 p.m. Teens and tweens may attend to learn how they can help real scientists collect data on real projects around the world. Snacks will be provided.

Magician Erick Hershey will present the Amazing, Trailblazing MAGIC Adventure! on Friday, July 12, at 10:30 a.m. This show features magical illusions that show how reading can take a person on adventures in his or her imagination.

Baby Story Time, for babies from birth to 17 months with a parent or other adult, will take place on Monday, July 15, at 10 a.m. Siblings may attend and listen, read, or play independently.

People of all ages are invited to participate in STEM Adventures, which will present challenges requiring them to design, build, test, and discover. On July 15 at 6 p.m., the theme will be "Ready, Set, Disperse! How Seeds Travel the World." On Saturday, July 20, at 2 p.m., the theme will be "Marble Roller Coasters."

Toddler Discovery Time will be offered on Wednesday, July 17, at 10 a.m. Toddlers should be accompanied by a parent or other adult caregiver.

National Park Service ranger Nick Cahill will present Hopewell Furnace: Fueling America's Industrial Growth on Thursday, July 18, at 2 p.m. In this program for children and adults alike, Cahill will speak about how the community of Hopewell Furnace utilized the resources of the region to cast iron products for a variety of purposes, from warfare to everyday living. Cahill has worked for the National Park Service in a variety of roles since 2017. He first interned at Gettysburg National Military Park and since then has worked at parks related to Civil War, American Revolution, and industrial history.

Teens and tweens are invited to attend Lunch Munch on July 20 at noon. They should bring their lunch.

Jesse Rothacker will present Ectothermic Animal Adventures on Monday, July 29, at 1:30 p.m. He will share information about reptiles, which are buried alive as babies, grow up as orphans and learn how to survive without teachers or parents. Rothacker shares his house with more than 100 of these cold-blooded creatures. Space is limited, and entry will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Piggy Bank Decorating: Saving for Future Adventures will take place on Tuesday, July 30, at 2 p.m. Children can learn the concept of saving money by designing and decorating their own piggy bank. Registration is required.
