ELANCO Library posts calendar

The Eastern Lancaster County (ELANCO) Library, 11 Chestnut Drive, New Holland, will offer a variety of events and programs to the community. Registration is not required, unless noted. For details, visit http://www.elancolibrary.org or contact 717-354-0525 or adagostino@elancolibrary.org.

The "All Together Now!" Summer Reading Program will run from Saturday, June 3, through Saturday, Aug. 12. The program will feature a reading challenge with prizes for completing it, along with special events. Patrons of all ages can visit the library to sign up.

A kickoff party for the Summer Reading Program and a Community Resource Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on June 3. In addition to the resource fair, the event will include live music, food, crafts, special guests and surprises.

Preschool Story Time for children ages 3 to 6 will be held on Tuesdays, and Toddler Thursdays will run on Thursdays for children from birth to age 3 and their siblings. Both programs will start at 10:30 a.m.

STEM Through Stories will be offered on Wednesdays at 3 p.m. Each week, the program will focus on a new STEM topic like engineering, outer space or dinosaurs. The program is geared toward children ages 4 to 7, but those of all ages are welcome.

Readers' Roundtable Book Discussion will meet on Monday, June 5, at 2 p.m. to discuss "News of the World: A Novel" by Paulette Jiles. The group is open to adults.

An exhibit titled "All Together Now: Waterfalls of the Eastern United States," featuring the photography of William Dryden Milheim, will be held on Thursday, June 8, at 6 p.m. Milheim, a retired Penn State faculty member, has visited and photographed several hundred waterfalls across the eastern United States. Light refreshments will be available. The event is open to adults.

Kindness Rocks! will take place on Saturday, June 10, at 1 p.m. As part of the Kindness Rocks Project, people of all ages may paint rocks and leave them for others to find and collect. Registration is required.

Hooks & Needles, a yarn craft club, will meet on Monday, June 12, at 6:30 p.m. Knitters and crocheters will gather to work on projects. Beginners are welcome.

Forensics at the Library will be offered on Wednesday, June 14, at 6 p.m. Teens will learn about forensic science, including fingerprinting, blood spatter analysis, trace evidence and crime scene sketching. The workshop is open to individuals age 13 and older. Registration is required and will open June 3.

A New Holland Business Association networking event and library spotlight will be held on Thursday, June 15, at 6:30 p.m. Small business owners are invited to join the library and New Holland Business Association to learn about the resources, services, and tools that can assist small businesses; tour the library; network; and enjoy light refreshments. The event is open to the public, and visitors need not be business owners to attend.

Pollinator Story Time with Penn State Extension Master Gardeners will be held on Tuesday, June 20, at 10:30 a.m. for children ages 3 to 6 and their siblings.

"Talewise Science Heroes: Saving Earth Together" will be presented on Wednesday, June 21, at 1:30 p.m. In this action-packed story, two unlikely heroes work together to save their own town (and the planet) from a super-polluting mastermind. The program will include science experiments.

"All Together Now: Let's Explore Lancaster County Demographics" will be held on Thursday, June 22, at 6:30 p.m. for adults. Isabel Castillo from YWCA Lancaster will share an overview of a recently published demographic study of Lancaster County titled "An Equity Profile of Lancaster County." This report provides information related to education, income, housing, transportation, age, languages spoken, and more. It also tracks outcomes in health, criminal justice, economic achievement, and more by race/ethnicity and draws conclusions about what the data might mean. There will be time for questions and discussion at the end of the presentation.

The library yard sale will take place on Saturday, June 24, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Payment will be by donation, and all proceeds will benefit ELANCO Library. Visitors may also browse the selections at the Friends of ELANCO Library's book sale.

Buckhill Sleuths' Book Discussion will meet on Monday, June 26, at 2 p.m. Attendees will discuss "Those People" by Louise Candlish.

American History Trivia Night for people of all ages will begin at 6 p.m. on June 26. The events will include prizes and snacks.

STEM Night: Biodiversity will be offered on Wednesday, June 28, at 6 p.m. From animals to fungi, participants will explore what makes life on the planet unique and how it is all connected. The program is recommended for elementary school-age children, but all are welcome.

Comic Book and Anime Character Design with Keville A. Bowen, an artist and animator, will be offered on Thursday, June 29, from 1 to 3 p.m. The workshop will teach attendees to draw faces and bodies for comic book and anime characters. The program is open to individuals age 9 and up of all skill levels.

The Lego Creation Club will gather on June 29 at 6 p.m. Using Lego bricks, participants will build themed creations that will be displayed in the library.
