ELANCO Library posts programs

The Eastern Lancaster County (ELANCO) Library, 11 Chestnut Drive, New Holland, will offer a variety of events and programs to the community. Registration is not required, unless noted. For details, visit http://www.elancolibrary.org or contact 717-354-0525 or adagostino@elancolibrary.org.

The grand reopening of the renovated and expanded Children's Library, along with a Community Resource Fair and the Summer Reading Kick-Off Party, will be held on Saturday, June 1, from 10 a.m. to noon. The event will feature live music, food, crafts, special guests, and more. Summer Reading Program logs will be available. People of all ages may attend.

The library offers various activities regularly. In June, these will include Readers' Roundtable Book Discussion, featuring "Atomic City Girls" by James Beard, on Monday, June 3, at 2 p.m.; Hooks and Needles Yarn Craft Club, for people of all ages who knit or crochet, on Monday, June 10, at 6:30 p.m.; Lego Creation Club on Thursday, June 13, at 6 p.m.; Preschool Story Time, for children ages 3 to 6, every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m.; and Toddler Thursdays, for children from birth to age 3, every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Siblings are welcome to join in at Preschool Story Time and Toddler Thursdays.

Let's Take an Insect Adventure! will be held on Tuesday, June 4, at 1:30 p.m. Ryan "The Bug Man" will show bugs and insects from around the world and share some adventures he had while searching for them. Space is limited, and entry will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Lancaster Conservancy will present a program on Friday, June 7, at 11 a.m. as part of Water Week. Attendees will learn about the ways humans use water and ways people can protect this resource for future generations.

A Penn State Extension Master Gardener will present Vegetable Gardening on a Budget on Saturday, June 8, at 2 p.m. Adults are invited to learn how to set up a vegetable garden while cutting costs and increasing harvests. Topics will include recycling materials and high-yield crop ideas.

STEM Adventures programs for people of all ages will include a Bridge Challenge on June 10 at 6 p.m. and Amazing Animal Adaptations on Saturday, June 22, at 2 p.m.

Penn State Extension Master Gardener volunteers will share Keeping Your Little Adventurer Safe! on Wednesday, June 12, at 10:30 a.m. This 30-minute program will teach children and families about pests, integrated pest management, and safety around poisonous substances.

Exploring Artificial Intelligence will be held on June 12 at 7 p.m. Brandon Harter, attorney and founder of Lancaster Tech Law, will discuss how artificial intelligence is impacting Lancaster County and how it may continue to do so in the future. The program is for adults and teens.

Mark DeRose Music & Art will be held on Friday, June 14, at 10:30 a.m. The program, for families, will feature songs, artwork, videos, and activities.

Survive Outside, for teens and tweens, will be held on June 14 at 2 p.m. Attendees will discuss survival scenarios, learn what to keep in an emergency survival kit, and practice navigation using a compass made from a cork.

Baby Story Time, for babies from birth to 17 months with a parent or other adult, will take place on Monday, June 17, at 10 a.m. Siblings may attend and listen, read, or play independently.

Teens and tweens may attend Let's Explore Robots on June 17 at 6 p.m.

Toddler Discovery Time will be held on Wednesday, June 19, at 10 a.m. This activity is for toddlers with a parent or other adult.

Melody Karick from Second Wind Dreams will host a Virtual Dementia Tour on June 19 at 2 p.m. Using devices that alter the senses, attendees may experience what it is like to have dementia. Afterward, they will receive information on how to make a difference in the lives of people living with dementia. Karick is a dementia educator, a consultant, and the director of Dementia Friendly Lancaster.

Cissy and The Man will present Circus in a Box on Thursday, June 20, at 1:30 p.m. The family program features a juggler and clown duo.

Tweens and teens may bring their lunch to the library for Lunch Munch on Saturday, June 22, at noon.

Get Outside! With Lancaster Conservancy will be held on Wednesday, June 26, at 6 p.m. People of all ages may learn about local trails and preserves and how to be prepared for outdoor adventures.

The library will offer Fighting Financial Fraud on Thursday, June 27, at 2 p.m. for teens and adults. Jen Parsons and Chad Davis from Mid Penn Bank will share how people may enhance their security and protect themselves from scams, fraud, and cyber crimes. The presentation will be followed by a question-and-answer time.
