Elizabeth Hughes Society Posts Meeting

The Elizabeth Hughes Society will meet on Monday, March 23, at 6:30 p.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 398 N. Locust St., Elizabethtown. Dr. George Simms will present on "Broken Glass," his new book of reflections on his experience of aging, loss, and the search for meaning in life. Society member Carol Hunter will facilitate the discussion, and there will be a question-and-answer period. The meeting is free and open to the public.

Simms, a longtime resident of Masonic Village in Elizabethtown, is a retired physician who chaired the Department of Family and Community Medicine in the Penn State University College of Medicine. He was also the founding medical director of hospice at Masonic Village. He holds advanced degrees in medicine, medical ethics, psychology and theology from the University of Zurich, Switzerland; Harvard Divinity School; United States International University in San Diego; and University of Southern California in Los Angeles. His interest in academic medicine led to professorships at five different universities.

The Elizabeth Hughes Society is a local organization of women who seek to promote education, cooperation, a higher public spirit, and a better social order through programs, scholarships, and support of the Elizabethtown Public Library.
